  3. Rescue Award

We received a call about an injured swan and a Branch Animal Officer went to investigate. The swan was too far out to reach, but was obviously very badly injured, possibly hit by a power boat. Three men in a boat came to the rescue! They helped the Branch Animal Officer to retrieve the swan from the water.

Just as the Officer was returning from this rescue, another injured swan was reported on the bank opposite the first rescue. The Officer returned to the scene to find her three helpers were still there. For a second time, the men assisted in capturing an injured swan.

Unfortunately, when the swans were examined by a vet, they were so badly injured they had to be put to sleep.

You may think this is a sad story, but the important issue is that if these three young men had not been on hand or had not offered to help, the swans would have suffered for a very long time before they could have been attended to. We are very grateful to MAX HODGE, LUKE CRAZE and PHIL DORRELL for their help and present them with the Rescue of the Year Award.

    Certificates and mugs awarded.

  4. Speaker: David Kennard (Sheep Dog Handler)
